Made By Me Publications is part of a team of small businesses that hosts A Writer's Vision Literary Symposium annually in September. The continuing objective is to teach others How to Write, Publish, Market and Sell their books. The 4th annual event was September 3, 2011 in Oklahoma City's Character Inn Conference Center. See registration details below.
The History of
A Writer’s vision Literary Symposium
A Writer’s Vision Literary Symposium (AWV) began with a passion for literacy. As an experienced tutor and literacy advocate, Nawassa Hooks joined forces with authors/publishers “Bea” Hazley, and Lucinda Marie Thierry, marketing guru Christina Sanders, and Thierry’s young children Ryan McMurry and Destiny Pennington. Together, they hosted the first AWV in 2008 at Oklahoma City’s Eastside Convention Center with 50 attendees. Hooks and her co-hosts became known as the Dream Team for teaching individuals how to write, publish, market and sell their books.
AWV continued to culminate great success through the 2009 symposium in Oklahoma City’s Character Inn Conference Center. Experts taught current and aspiring authors from around the country how to make their dreams come true. Here are some of the comments by previous attendees from Oklahoma, Ohio, Missouri and Texas:
“I especially enjoyed the reading of poems.”
“I never thought of ever writing a book, but after today's symposium, that is something I’ll consider in the future.”
“The information that was given by presenters was awesome and encouraging.”
“I enjoyed everything.”
“The program was consistently exciting and interesting, start to finish. There were no lulls. Everything was great, including lunch, breakfast, gifts, the location, and the vendors…”
“The information was valuable.”
“The hospitality was remarkable!”
“This was a great source of information, and I am glad I made this investment. I’m looking forward to working with you and hopefully being encouraged to walk in what God has called me to do.”
“My expectations were met and exceeded!”
“I enjoyed the inspirational nature of the symposium and helpful information.”
The 2010 Symposium weekend marked the third event and an addition to the Dream Team-anger management and life skills trainer JoAnn Hunt. The weekend started off with a book signing on Friday at the Langston University Oklahoma City campus. This book signing gave the team an opportunity to highlight and promote authors in a venue that is all about literacy. Saturday’s events included speakers from around the country, along with prizes and surprises.
The 2011 event was the largest with 65 registrants, special literacy awards, and the inclusion of three out-of-state speakers.
As a result of the Dream Team’s effort, AWV has inspired many attendees to start writing. Some have even published a book. Destiny Pennington, our youngest Dream Team member, published her first book called Me and My First Day of School. Charles Smith of Birmingham, Alabama wrote his first book entitled He that Findeth A Wife: A Christian Guide To Finding The Helpmate God Has For You after being encouraged and motivated by the Dream Team member and author/publisher Lucinda Marie Thierry. JoAnn Hunt published a children’s book called The Track Star. Fran James published How to Apply for College Scholarships and Save $$$. Many other AWV attendees are currently writing their books.
We hope to see you at the 2012 event on September 1. More details will follow on that, so stay tuned.
